Hamilton GOP Mayoral Candidate Challenges Mayor Gilmore to Series of Debates

8/29/2007 -
Today, Hamilton Republican mayoral candidate John Bencivengo sent a letter to Hamilton Mayor Glen Gilmore challenging him to a series of debates to be held throughout Hamilton Township.
"As Labor Day approaches and the people of Hamilton settle back home from their summer vacations I believe that we should dedicate ourselves, as candidates for mayor, to providing the residents an opportunity to hear from both of us regarding our plans for the future of Hamilton. We owe the residents of Hamilton an informative, issues-based campaign," Bencivengo wrote.
Bencivengo proposed to the Mayor a series of ten debates to be held one each week from now to Election Day. "Each debate should be sponsored by a community organization or group and should focus on an individual issue so that the people have an opportunity to be well-informed regarding the issues that face Hamilton and are of concern to its residents," he continued. The individual issues that Bencivengo proposed each debate should focus on include taxes, fiscal management, Klockner Woods, development & growth, open space, the transit development, traffic, public safety, employee relations, and ethics & reform.

"In this crucial election year the people of Hamilton deserve the opportunity to hear from Mayor Gilmore and me where we stand on the issues that they deem important. This series of debates will provide that opportunity and by holding the debates throughout the township and by focusing on individual issues in each debate the residents will learn more about each issue facing Hamilton Township," Bencivengo concluded.
