Hamilton GOP Chairman Calls on Mayor Gilmore to Stop Playing Dirty Politics

9/21/2007 -  Today, Hamilton Republican Committee Chairman Bruce R. Darvas called on Hamilton Mayor Glen Gilmore to stop playing dirty politics and run his campaign in an honorable manner.

"Earlier this week at Hamilton Republican Headquarters GOP mayoral candidate John Bencivengo held a press conference at 12:30 PM to lay out his fiscal plan for the future of Hamilton Township," Darvas said.  "During the conference a gentleman began acting suspiciously and several individuals who attended the conference reported to me that this man had a tape recorder with him.  As soon as the press conference ended he hurried out of the building," Darvas continued.

"Upon speaking to other residents in attendance I discovered that the man told one individual that his name was Tim Gray and that he was from Yardville, but he told another individual that he was from Lawrenceville.  After doing some research we have confirmed that the man's name is Tim Gray, but he is from Union, NJ," Darvas stated.

"Just minutes after the press conference one of our supporters found Mr. Gray's car parked in the Hamilton Municipal Building parking lot.  A search of the Municipal Building's sign-in sheet clearly shows that Mr. Gray signed into the building at 1:24 PM to see the Mayor.  The only explanation for this is that Mr. Gray went to see Mayor Gilmore or his secretary, Jill Moyer, who also happens to be the Hamilton Democratic Chairwoman, in order to deliver the recording," Darvas commented.  "Why Mayor Gilmore feels he must send spies to find out what is going on at Republican Headquarters is beyond me, but this is most certainly improper use of both taxpayer time and township property and there is no place for this type of dirty campaigning in Hamilton."

"If Mayor Gilmore or Chairwoman Moyer wanted to hear what Mr. Bencivengo had to say they were most certainly welcome to attend the press conference, just like any member of the public," Darvas said.  "I pity the Mayor in that he feels so threatened by Mr. Bencivengo or so desperate to win reelection that he has to resort to sending spies to our headquarters.  I hope that Mayor Gilmore will refrain from resorting to such dirty campaigning and low political stunts for the remainder of this campaign, but I truly believe that my hope is misplaced," he concluded.
