We
know Hamilton
We know Government !!!
Policy
Statement
There
are literally a flood of issues facing Hamilton's
municipal government as we look toward Election Day
on November 4 when the people of Hamilton will elect
a Mayor and two Council members who will lead our
community over the next four years.
Rather than attempting to address each singularly
let us place all of them into broad categories. First
and foremost, we pledge to restore and improve fiscal
stability and sanity to our municipal government.
Equally, we pledge to make Hamilton safer, cleaner
and more beautiful than it has ever been, with a healthy
respect for the accomplishments of the past and a
clear vision of what the future can be. And, finally
we pledge to re-establish and enforce fairness, justice
and impartiality in all activities of our township
government. How we intend to go about accomplishing
those goals is the basis of our campaign.
On
the Issues
-
Hamilton
Township is in financial chaos
and no amount of bureaucratic dancing or political
bobbing and weaving can change that fact. The facts
are very clear. The current government inherited
an $8,000,000 surplus and it's gone. Regardless
of who is elected in November, that mayor and administration
will have at the least two very difficult years
of dealing with a falling bond rating, depleted
surpluses, stop-gap, one-time financial gimmicks
applied to the present that will have to be paid
in the future and a rising demand on tax dollars.

-
To
be safer every
public safety program currently in effect must be
evaluated to determine its effectiveness and continuing
need. By conferring with the chief of police and
the department's superior officers, as well as with
representatives of the Hamilton PBA who are actually
the people doing the job on the street, we will
determine what our community's requirements are
for first-class law enforcement. Whether it's more
officers, more cars, more foot and bicycle patrols,
more neighborhood crime watch units, or simply better
utilization of all those tools and elimination o0r
reduction of others, we will make those judgments
only after we know exactly what we have and how
the personnel and equipment are being utilized presently.

To
make our beloved Hamilton cleaner
more concentration must be applied to such mundane
tasks as timely garbage collection and leaf removal.
In the first case, garbage collection, the contract
with the collection firm has penalties in the form
of fines that can be imposed on the collection firm
for failure to collect in a timely manner. There
is absolutely no acceptable excuse for garbage to
remain on Hamilton streets for a week or more. Applying
hefty fines for that failure will soon correct the
collection company's faults. Otherwise, the collection
contract has been voided by the company's failure
to deliver on contracted services and the township
can seek another collector. [more...]

To
be more beautiful
Hamilton's parks, flowerbeds, trees, athletic facilities
and open spaces must receive a higher priority in
scheduled maintenance than they are now. We shall
re-establish the tree-trimming function that, until
four years ago, was an integral part of the Buildings
and Grounds Division. That unit provided a very
necessary service under our beautification goals.
No longer can flowerbeds be left unattended from
one year to the next. All require weeding and planting
each spring and regular attention throughout the
year. [more...]

Fairness,
justice and impartiality
have literally disappeared from Hamilton government
operations over the past four years as noted by
just a few examples. [more...]
